TREVOR DAVIS SENTENCED IN SHERWOOD AND NEWARK FOR CHILD ABUSE
In April 2003, Trevor Davis, a 48-year-old man residing on Wiverton Road in Sherwood, was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of multiple child abuse charges.The court also mandated that Davis be registered on the sex offenders' register for life, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the lasting impact on his victims.
Judge Alison Hampton delivered a stern judgment, emphasizing the gravity of Davis's actions.
She stated, "These offences that come before the court cause revulsion and disgust in the mind of any right-thinking individual." She further condemned his conduct, noting that the crimes involved young girls, and that his behavior was profoundly indecent.
The judge highlighted the devastating consequences of his actions, asserting that Davis had not only marred the childhoods of his victims but also cast a shadow over their adult lives.
As part of his sentence, Davis will serve half of the four-year term before being released on licence for an additional three years.
He pleaded guilty to six counts of gross indecency, four counts of indecency, and six counts of indecent assault.
The offences were committed on three different girls during separate incidents while Davis was living in Newark.
His crimes included indecent touching and, in at least one case, performing an indecent act in front of a young girl.
His arrest took place in December of the previous year.
Prosecutor Noel Philo described Davis’s lack of remorse, stating, "He couldn’t say why it happened.
He had never sought any help to stop his behaviour." The court was also presented with a victim statement, in which one of the young girls expressed her feelings of anger and shame over what she had endured.
In mitigation, Davis’s legal representative, Ms.
Eddy Leonard, argued that her client felt profound remorse and shame for his actions.
She explained, "He bitterly regrets his behaviour and recognises he has a problem and needs help." The mitigation also revealed that Davis’s personal circumstances had deteriorated; his wife was in the process of divorcing him, he had signed over the house to her, and he had lost his job, leaving him with nothing.
Judge Hampton concluded her remarks by expressing hope that the sentence would aid the victims in coming to terms with their trauma.
She addressed Davis directly, saying, "You concealed your conduct and persisted with your pervert urges," underscoring the court’s condemnation of his actions and the importance of justice for the victims.
