MAN JAILED FOR 'APPALLING' RAPE IN NEWARK
A man has been sentenced to prison for a severe sexual assault case at his residence in Newark.Nottinghamshire Police reported that Francesco Aria's victim managed to escape his address following the assault and subsequently reported the incident.
Although Aria denied the rape, claiming that the encounter was consensual, he was found guilty after a trial that concluded last month.
The court sentenced the 30-year-old to seven years and three months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on a Monday.
The incident was reported by the victim in August 2021, and it took four years for Aria to be convicted.
Detective Constable Donna Elliott of Nottinghamshire Police stated, "Aria's actions were appalling, and unsurprisingly this incident has had a very considerable impact on the victim's life.
She has shown enormous courage in coming forward and immense patience as this trial reached the courts." As part of the sentencing, Aria was given an indefinite restraining order to prevent contact with the victim and was also registered on the sex offenders register for life.
