MAN JAILED AFTER SEXUALLY ASSAULTING GIRL
A man who committed a sexual assault on a young girl while she was playing in the street has been sentenced to prison.David Evans, aged 69, assaulted a girl believed to be of primary school age after speaking with her in Newark, Nottinghamshire, on 29 October 2022.
After his arrest, authorities found evidence linking him to other sexual offences in the summer months.
He appeared before Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday, where he received a two-year jail term and was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.
Nottinghamshire Police reported that during the initial assault, Evans put his hand into the girl’s trousers, prompting her to run away and raise the alarm.
Evans was detained shortly thereafter, questioned, and then released on bail.
Police subsequently connected him with additional offences, including an incident at a supermarket on 26 August where he engaged a woman in conversation before attempting to touch her, and an incident at Newark bus station on 30 September, where he targeted another woman waiting for a bus.
He pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault, which included an incident involving a girl under 13.
Detective Constable Helen Sanders stated that Evans is a significant threat to women and young girls, and expressed satisfaction that he has faced justice.
She also praised his victims for their brave and detailed testimonies.
As part of his penalties, Evans was subject to a sexual harm prevention order that prohibits him from initiating conversations with women he does not know in public, sitting next to women on public transport, or establishing contact with minors.
