TOMAS BAKER FROM TAMWORTH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING UNDERAGE GIRL IN BIRMINGHAM
In a case that has shocked the local community of Tamworth, Tomas Baker, a 20-year-old man, was sentenced to a decade behind bars at Birmingham Crown Court for a series of serious criminal offences involving a minor. The court heard that Baker, who previously listed his address as Glascote Heath, was found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual exploitation of a girl under the age of 16, as well as other related crimes.
Specifically, Baker admitted to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl under 16 years old.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawfully taking a child without authority, which further compounded the severity of his actions.
The court also found him guilty of possessing indecent images, a crime that highlights the disturbing nature of his misconduct, along with possession of a bladed article, which posed a threat to public safety.
The case gained media attention last year when Baker was charged after being discovered with a missing 15-year-old girl from Pontypridd in South Wales.
This incident raised concerns about his involvement in potentially more serious criminal activities.
During the sentencing hearing held earlier this month, Baker was also subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, a legal measure designed to restrict his future conduct and protect the community.
As part of the court's ruling, Baker was ordered to surrender his mobile phone and a kitchen knife, items that were deemed relevant to the case.
Furthermore, he was required to pay a victim surcharge of £170, a financial penalty intended to support victims of crime.
The court proceedings involved a total of ten charges, with Baker changing some of his pleas from not guilty to guilty during the trial, which ultimately led to his conviction.
The sentencing on 8 February marked the culmination of a lengthy legal process, during which Baker’s actions were scrutinized and condemned.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding youth crime and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation and harm in the Tamworth area and beyond.
