TAMWORTH DAD INFECTED WITH HEPATITIS C SMEARS BLOOD ON EX-LOVER AND THREATENS WITH A KNIFE
A dad has been jailed for smearing his ex-lover with his own blood – despite knowing he was infected with hepatitis C.David Tonks slashed his arm and also threatened the victim, the mother of his baby, with a knife in the street.The 36-year-old, of Smith Lane, Wilnecote, Tamworth , was jailed for a total of 35 weeks.“He also cut himself, and he then took his arm, which was bleeding, and spread it across her face – this defendant being hepatitis C positive.”The victim ran into the street, but Tonks followed her, still with the knife, and pushed her against a wall.Mr Jarmola said she was left with bruising to her head, an injury to her arm and was “violated by that blood being smeared on her’ – although she was not infected.Tonks admitted charges of assault and threatening the victim with a knife in the street.Julian Harris, defending, said information on the NHS website showed hepatitis C could be successfully treated, especially if detected at an early stage.But Mr Harris conceded: “It is still thoroughly unpleasant.“He is resigned to his fate.
He knows he’s going away.”Passing sentence, Recorder Christopher Goodchild told Tonks: “Something triggered you to explode, and you hit your former partner with a wooden pole.“Thereafter you seem to have gone into the house, got yourself a kitchen knife and threatened people with it and, at the same time, cut yourself.“You then plastered your former partner with that blood around the face.“I have no doubt that, when you did that, you had in mind that you had been diagnosed with hepatitis C.”
