TAMWORTH POLICE OFFICER OWEN MILLS JAILED FOR INAPPROPRIATE RELATIONSHIPS
Owen Mills, who formerly worked as a police officer, has been sentenced to two years in prison for misconduct involving the abuse of police powers. He was employed at Tamworth Police Station and was arrested in January 2023 after Staffordshire Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit carried out an investigation.
Mills admitted to engaging in inappropriate relationships with two people he met while on duty.
The first relationship involved a vulnerable woman with whom he developed a personal and sexual connection, marking a serious breach of trust and police conduct standards, as explained by Acting Deputy Chief Constable Caroline Marsh.
The second was a relationship with a witness he encountered while performing his duties.
Mills had earlier pleaded guilty to two charges of corrupt and improper exercise of police powers before Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on May 16.
After his arrest, he was suspended from his position.
Police authorities have strongly condemned his behavior as a violation of professional integrity, emphasizing that there are systems in place for anonymous misconduct reporting to uphold transparency and accountability.
