MAN JAILED FOR HARASSMENT AND ASSAULT
On Wednesday, 15 October, Timothy Hourigan appeared before Chester Crown Court and was sentenced to a term of 20 months in prison. The 50-year-old resident of Braemar Avenue, Northwich, had previously admitted to charges including harassment, witness intimidation, and assault by beating.
The court was informed that in August 2025, police responded to reports that Hourigan had been harassing his former partner following the discovery of her new relationship.
The victim stated that the harassment began in April 2025, with Hourigan persistently making unsolicited phone calls and sending messages.
Over the subsequent months, he continued this pattern, along with making unwanted visits to her residence.
During one incident, Hourigan called the victim 49 times in a single day, even threatening to wait for her outside her home.
He also obtained her new partner’s address and drove past it, despite having no legitimate reason to do so.
Hourigan was detained by police on 5 August 2025 and questioned regarding the incidents.
He was subsequently released on bail, subject to strict conditions.
However, on 20 August, Hourigan violated his bail conditions by visiting the victim's home and assaulting her new partner, repeatedly punching him and warning him not to contact the police.
Following this, he was re-arrested and charged with harassment, assault under S39, and witness intimidation related to threats against the victim’s new partner.
He was kept in custody, during which he made several bail applications.
These requests were rejected by officers due to concerns about the risk he posed.
Alongside his prison sentence, Hourigan was issued a ten-year restraining order, barring him from having any contact with the victim.
