NORTHWICH SEX OFFENDER FINED FOR BREACHING COURT ORDER
A SEX offender from Northwich who failed to register a new online username with police has admitted breaching an order.Robert Gibson, of School Road, Rudheath, admitted the breach at Chester Magistrates Court on December 23.
It relates to offences committed in 2016 when the 59-year-old was handed an order after being convicted for possessing indecent images of children.
The court heard on October 23, supervising police officers attended his property and saw a username ELM666 had been added to his device.
This, they said, put him in breach and he was arrested.
Sarah Hamblett, defending, said he registered the username a month earlier and a day after his mother had died.
She said the breach is down to a misunderstanding on his behalf as he had already registered the email with police and did not think the new name, which he needed to log into a device, was needed.
"He thought he was creating a password rather than a profile and that he had previously registered that email with police," she added.
Magistrates handed him a £700 fine plus a £280 surcharge and £85 in costs.
