MAN JAILED AFTER UNWITTINGLY SPEAKING TO AN UNDERCOVER OFFICER
A man convicted of possessing indecent images of children and breaching a court order has been sentenced to nearly ten years in prison.
Timothy Gardner, 53, had been previously convicted in 2014 for creating multiple indecent images of minors as well as possessing a prohibited image.
He was sentenced to a suspended prison term and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade.
Gardner, residing in Medhurst Way, Littlemore, Oxfordshire, was detained in August 2022 after exchanging messages on an online chat platform with an undercover officer.
He was later apprehended in February 2023 due to non-compliance with the notification obligations of the Sex Offenders’ Register and other court mandates.
In January, Gardner appeared at Newcastle Crown Court and confessed to five charges, which included encouraging or assisting criminal activity, failing to meet three notification requirements, and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Subsequently, on Thursday, he faced the same court again, where he was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison, with an additional year under supervision after his release.
