PREGNANT NEWCASTLE WOMAN BITTEN AND STRANGLED BY JEALOUS EX IN APPALLING ATTACK
A pregnant woman was strangled and bitten by her jealous former partner in a shocking attack.Kieran Walton had served time in prison last year for assaulting the woman but went to her home to try to rekindle their relationship.
An argument erupted after he accused her of seeing other men while he was locked up.
After taunting her, sneering at her and demeaning her, he became physically violent when she told him she'd been recording his verbal abuse.
He pushed her over a sofa, bit her on the back leaving bite marks, struck her in the face, and grabbed her by the throat, restricting her breathing for around five seconds.
At the time, she was 16 weeks pregnant and was left with cuts and bruises to her face and back, as well as a visible bite mark.
Walton, 35, of no fixed address, who has 20 previous convictions and was jailed for seven weeks last October for assaulting the same woman, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.
He was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
The court heard Walton, who had previously been in a relationship with the victim for about 18 months, went to her Newcastle home on January 18 this year.
Prosecutor Rachel Kelly said: "He began arguing with her about not having sex with him and having relations with other men while he was in prison." He grabbed her phone to stop her from recording his verbal abuse and pushed her, causing her to fall over her sofa.
After biting her, he also struck her and put his hand around her throat, which restricted her breathing for about five seconds.
The woman sustained cuts, bruises, and a bite mark.
Walton has a history of violence, with 20 prior convictions, and was previously jailed for assault last October.
His latest sentence reflects the serious nature of his offences, including actual bodily harm and strangulation, which is recognized by the judge and prosecutor as an extremely dangerous behavior.
