NEWCASTLE NEW YEARS EVE SEX ATTACKER RAPED WOMAN THEN ASSAULTED HER HUSBAND
On New Year’s Day, a woman was sexually assaulted and raped by Carl Daniels after he encountered her on the street, despite her protests for him to stop.
Following the assault, when her partner learned of what had happened, he confronted Daniels and was then subjected to a severe and extended attack.
Daniel pulled him to the ground and repeatedly struck him in the face and head.
This assault left the man with a black eye and facial cuts that required stitches.
Judge Carolyn Scott reflected that although the assault lasted only seconds, its emotional impact was profound, emphasizing the woman’s intoxicated state and the darkness of the night, as well as her isolation during the incident.
Daniels, aged 34 from Eastbourne Avenue, Walker, Newcastle, was convicted by a jury of rape, assault by penetration, and inflicting actual bodily harm.
He received a prison sentence of nearly eight years and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
