MAN JAILED FOR ONLINE CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A man was sentenced to eight years in prison after attempting to communicate sexually with a minor and seeking to enable a sexual activity with a child.Timothy Evans, who is 43 years old (born 11/02/1982), of Camberley, appeared at Chichester Crown Court on Friday, 14 February, and was handed his sentence.
He was known to police from a previous conviction in 2022, which involved sexual communications with a girl under the age of 16, and arranging or promoting a child sex offence.
Following his release from incarceration for these activities in July 2024, Evans was under the obligation to register under the Sexual Offences regulations and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), imposing restrictions including no contact with children.
During September and October 2024, Evans engaged with a profile he believed to be a 14-year-old girl named 'Jess.' This profile was operated by an undercover officer, who was monitoring communications to detect those encouraging children to engage in sexual conduct.
Although it was obvious that the profile was that of a minor, Evans continued messaging, describing various sexual acts he wished to perform.
He proposed to meet in person, suggesting he could travel to see her and planning to meet at a train station.
He also made plans to visit her home when her parents were away.
After his last contact with the profile, Evans was arrested and kept in custody before being charged on October 24, 2024.
