READING MAN JAILED FOR NINE YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A 47-year-old man has been jailed for nine years after sexually abusing a girl in Reading.Calvin Ayre, aged 47, of Beechnut Drive, Camberley, appeared at Reading Crown Court on Monday (18/8) following his arrest on October 14, 2020.
Police charged Ayre on April 9, 2024 following an extensive police investigation.
This is relating to numerous incidents between 2018 and 2019.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Sam Haselgrove, of West Berkshire’s Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “This result is a testament to the strength of the victim and her unwavering support to the investigation.
This sentence highlights our commitment to supporting those who have suffered abuse in their childhood, no matter when the offending took place, and bringing their abusers to justice.” Following a seven day trial at Reading Crown Court Ayre was found guilty by a jury of three counts of sexual activity with a child by penetration, and one count each of inciting sexual activity with a child.
He was also found guilty of possession of a prohibited image of a child, making indecent photographs of a child (Class B), making indecent photographs of a child (Class C) and doing a series of acts tending and intended to pervert the court of justice.
