CONVICTED OF COERCIVE AND CONTROLLING BEHAVIOUR AND SENDING MALICIOUS MESSAGES
When I initially documented what Kingsley had done to me, I never believed I would develop the strength to confront him legally. For months, I wrestled with the idea of going to court.
Over time, however, the influence that an abuser holds over a person begins to diminish.
You start to view life through a clearer lens, free from the distorted perspective they imposed.
He once made me feel as though I was living inside a bubble that only he controlled.
I believed I would be with him forever, but now I recognize this as a typical reaction to a narcissistic abuser.
I was blinded by love, and part of me was also afraid of how I would manage life without him.
There’s no denying I would have gone to great lengths for him.
He completely isolated me from everyone I once knew—controlling who I could interact with—and in doing so, made me feel like his possession, obeying every command as if it was law.
Through gaslighting, I was led to think this was normal for someone who claimed to love me.
The abuse was so insidious that I didn’t fully grasp how serious it was until I began to fear for my safety.
Kingsley, a boxer by profession, recounted violent acts he had committed against others.
His stories filled me with fear, knowing I stood little chance against him.
After denying any responsibility, Kingsley Stembridge, 30, from Camberley (born 22/02/1995), was found guilty of Coercive and Controlling Behaviour, malicious messaging, and criminal damage.
On 11 April 2025, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison at Chichester Crown Court.
Additionally, he received a 15-year restraining order banning him from contact with her and her family.
Speaking bravely about her experience, the survivor said: “Many victims of domestic abuse choose to stay silent because it’s such a tough subject.
Often, you’re made to feel like you deserve what’s happening to you.
The process wasn’t easy.
I’d never been to court before, and I hadn't seen Kingsley since the last abusive incident when I had to escape.
Reliving everything emotionally was difficult, but when I saw the evidence of his actions—photos and videos—I realized the young girl I once was didn’t deserve to be treated that way.
With support from loved ones, I found the strength to keep going.
I’m proud to have prevented future victims from suffering at his hands.
Justice being served gives me hope and sets an example for others in similar situations.” PC Charlotte Cripps, who led the investigation, commented: “This has been a lengthy and intricate case.
I commend the survivor’s bravery and resilience.
It wasn’t easy for her to open up about her abuse, but her determination led to the defendant being held accountable.
Now, she and her family are safer.
Still, there are many others facing abuse and violence, and I hope her story reassures victims that they will be taken seriously.”
