BIRSTALL MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ASSAULTING PARTNER AND DAMAGING CAR
A 24-year-old man who attacked his female partner pleaded guilty to assault.
Thomas South, of Brook Road Lane, Birstall, admitted to assaulting mother-of-two, Elishia Ostrowski, at Carr Street, Liversedge, on February 28.
He also pleaded guilty to damaging Susan Rigg’s Ford Focus car on the same day.
The trouble started on the night of February 27 when the couple went out drinking separately.
The court heard South believed she had been having an affair, and an argument ensued with him accusing her of being in a car with another man.
Mr Smith, prosecuting at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court, stated that South admitted he was angry and slapped Elishia once.
He then drove off in a Citroen CV, running into Ms Rigg’s car and causing £350 damage.
In mitigation, Emma Haley said South, who had never been in trouble before, 'has lost his good character.' She added: 'He is a young man who says he behaved appallingly and will take steps to ensure that this is not something that will be repeated in any future relationships.' District Judge Nick Watson sentenced him to 80 hours of unpaid work, and ordered him to pay £350 in compensation to Ms Rigg and £360 in costs, payable at £50 weekly.
