HALIFAX MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER WIFE’S MURDER ON WEDDING NIGHT
Thomas Nutt, aged 46, has been convicted of murder and received a life prison sentence for the killing of his wife, Dawn Walker, who was 52.The court heard that Nutt strangled Ms.
Walker just hours after their marriage in October 2021.
Following the assault, he initially stored her body in a cupboard before discarding it in bushes near their home on Shirley Grove in Lightcliffe, Halifax.
Judge Jonathan Rose, the sentencing judge, stated: "It remains a mystery why you killed this woman who you had married only hours before." Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Nutt had a history of violence towards women and that he punched and strangled Ms.
Walker on the night she died.
He then concealed her body in a cupboard, took a short holiday, and after returning, placed her into a suitcase.
He dragged the suitcase along a gravel path and dumped it in a field.
Nutt also aided police in their search for Ms.
Walker, during which he sent misleading texts that pretended to be her.
He later admitted to killing her but claimed it was not murder, stating he did not intend to kill her but aimed to cause serious injury.
His manipulative tendencies were discussed in court, including isolating Ms.
Walker from her family and exerting control over her life.
Ms.
Walker’s daughter, Codie, shared her emotional pain, saying, "There are no words to describe how it feels for us every single day, waking up knowing what this person did to her, it is truly heart breaking for each and every one of us." Her sister, Lisa, condemned Nutt for manipulating her sister and making her feel worthless, which she believed led to her tragic death.
This case highlights the violent and controlling behavior of Nutt, culminating in a devastating loss of life and his subsequent lifelong imprisonment.
