CALDERDALE GANG JAILED FOR GROOMING AND ABUSING GIRLS
A group of fifteen men responsible for grooming and sexually abusing teenage girls in Halifax have been sentenced to prison. They faced convictions for multiple child sex crimes, including rape, grooming, and trafficking, following three separate court trials held at Leeds Crown Court.
The prosecution highlighted the remarkable bravery of the two victims who testified against the accused men.
The most severe sentence handed down was 25 years, reflecting what authorities described as a complex and extensive investigation.
The criminal gang misused their actions against a young girl in Halifax and Bradford between 2009 and 2011, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
Additionally, one other girl was sexually assaulted by a member of the group.
In describing the case as the 'largest' investigation of its kind, Peter Mann, head of the CPS’s complex casework unit for Yorkshire and Humberside, stated: 'These individuals are accountable for various crimes related to child sexual exploitation and abuse.
One victim was assaulted in a vehicle, while another was systematically groomed and exploited by the older men she associated with.
Some members of the gang acted collectively to groom her and supplied her with alcohol and drugs, whereas others exploited her individually.' West Yorkshire Police disclosed that the initial report of abuse came in 2012, when the first victim was 15 years old and residing in Halifax.
A second girl later provided testimony against another gang member during the investigations.
Background: The Primary Victim The main victim was only 13 when she was first subjected to abuse.
She reportedly came from a dysfunctional family environment, which had become dependent on drugs and alcohol around the time the abuse occurred.
Her abuse ceased in 2011, and she was subsequently placed into social care.
Now aged 21, she has rebuilt her life alongside her baby, living far from Calderdale.
The police described this case as the 'largest and longest' investigation into child sexual exploitation in Calderdale.
It involved nearly 60 hours of interviews with two victims, the analysis of 1,848 statements, 2,963 exhibits, and over 20,000 items of evidence, according to authorities.
A total of 25 men faced charges; however, four defendants were acquitted by a jury, and three others were cleared on judge's orders.
Peter Mann emphasized that this was a 'complex and long-term operation,' commending the girls for their courage in reporting and testifying against their abusers.
Khalid Zaman, 38, from Bradford, received a 17-and-a-half-year sentence after being convicted of two counts of rape and supplying class B drugs, despite denying all charges.
