In November 2018, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Thomas Murray, a 25-year-old resident of Jubilee Road in Haslingden. Murray engaged in an online conversation with what he believed was an 11-year-old girl, but in reality, he was communicating with a police officer posing as a minor. During their interaction, Murray sent a graphic image of his genitals to the supposed young girl, an act that would have serious legal repercussions.

At Burnley Crown Court, Murray pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to cause a child to view an image of a sexual nature and possession of indecent images of a child. The court heard that Murray had engaged in a grooming process with the individual he believed was an 11-year-old girl named Hannah, who was, in fact, an officer conducting an undercover investigation. The prosecutor, Catherine Allan, explained that Murray's conversations with Hannah involved grooming behaviors before he explicitly asked if she wanted to see his private parts.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Murray had no prior criminal record. His defense attorney, Shaun Finnigan, acknowledged his client's lack of previous convictions but confirmed that the case would proceed to the Crown Court for sentencing. Murray was released on bail pending his sentencing hearing, scheduled for January 7 at Burnley Crown Court.
