HASLINGDEN MAN JAILED FOR DRUNKEN ASSAULT ON PARTNER AND DOOR DESTRUCTION
A man who became extremely intoxicated after an argument with his partner ended up assaulting her. The incident occurred on January 15 at a residence in Bacup, where Damon McSloy, 35, of West View, Haslingden, pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage to a bedroom door. It was reported that McSloy, in a drunken state, fell over at the top of the stairs, bleeding from a cut above his eye when his partner checked on him. When she went to help, he lashed out and hit her in the face before slipping back down the stairs. During the hearing at Blackburn Magistrates' Court, the judge noted that McSloy was very drunk and emphasized the incident was particularly concerning because three young children who were in the house must have been very frightened. Prosecutor Jackie Partington explained that earlier in the evening, the couple argued and the victim moved to another bedroom to sleep. Later that night, loud crashing sounds were heard, and the victim found McSloy at the top of the stairs in a drunken state. After he slipped back down, she checked on the children and then heard him coming back upstairs, swearing angrily. The victim then locked herself in a bedroom while McSloy began kicking the door, prompting her to call the police. McSloy stated he wanted to apologize for his behavior and was not represented during the court proceedings. As a result, he was sentenced to a community order for 12 months, with a 15-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and an Alcohol Abstinence Monitoring requirement. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £300 in compensation.
