PROLIFIC HASLINGDEN DOMESTIC ABUSER JAILED FOR LATEST ATTACK
A man described in court as a "prolific" domestic abuser assaulted his latest partner after turning up at her home in a drunken state.Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Joshua Ward had convictions for assaulting two previous partners.
Ward, 36, of Deardengate, Haslingden, pleaded guilty to assault.
He was jailed for 18 weeks on Monday, September 29, and made subject to a restraining order for two years.
District Judge Alexandra Preston said the latest attack had taken place in his partner's home, which was a place where she should have felt safe.
She said: "You are now a prolific domestic abuser, having already been convicted of violence towards two previous women who have had the misfortune to have a relationship with you." Police called to a report of a domestic violence incident found the victim in a distressed state.
She said Ward had come to her address at 5am on Saturday, September 27, heavily intoxicated.
"She went back to bed, but he woke her up and was abusive," said Miss Greaves.
"He was demanding that she make him a pizza and was becoming increasingly agitated." Miss Greaves said Ward started punching the bed close to the victim's head before picking up a pair of trousers.
He was swinging them around and caught the victim in the face.
"He then punched her in the stomach," said Miss Greaves.
