WINSFORD MAN THOMAS LAWLOR SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a serious case that has shocked the community of Winsford, Thomas John Joseph Lawlor, a 60-year-old resident of Swanlow Lane, was sentenced to prison after admitting to charges of sexual misconduct involving a young girl.The incident occurred on July 8 of the previous year, and Lawlor appeared before Chester Crown Court last Wednesday to face the consequences of his actions.
According to the prosecution, Paul Smith, the details of the case revealed that the victim, a 10-year-old girl, witnessed Lawlor engaging in inappropriate behavior while she was visiting the property with her mother.
The girl observed Lawlor, a former HGV driver, 'messing' with himself outside his mobile home.
She saw him wave at her through the window, seemingly trying to attract her attention.
When her mother returned to the scene, Lawlor made a gesture with his finger to his lips, as if to instruct her to keep quiet about what she had seen.
Further disturbing details emerged during the court proceedings.
The girl visited Lawlor’s home and believed she saw him masturbating behind a piece of furniture.
Lawlor then allegedly asked her to 'give me a hug while I mess with it,' an act that involved him attempting to kiss her with an open mouth and grabbing her hand in an effort to move it towards himself.
He reportedly explained to her that 'that’s what girlfriends do,' attempting to justify his inappropriate behavior.
Defense attorney Matthew Dunford expressed remorse on Lawlor’s behalf, describing the incident as 'a moment of madness.' He stated that Lawlor, a father of two, deeply regrets his actions and wished he could undo what happened.
Dunford emphasized that Lawlor viewed his behavior as a regrettable lapse and was genuinely remorseful.
However, the presiding judge, Stephen Clarke, emphasized the severity of the offense and the importance of protecting children from such harm.
He remarked that while Lawlor had led a seemingly blameless life prior to this incident, his actions had inflicted significant damage on the young girl.
The judge underscored the court’s duty to send a clear message that such behavior is unacceptable and to highlight the vulnerability of children, stressing the need for their protection.
As a result, Lawlor was sentenced to a total of 12 months in prison.
The sentence comprised three months for inciting the girl to engage in sexual activity and a concurrent 12 months for sexual touching.
He is expected to serve half of this sentence.
Additionally, Lawlor was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, a measure aimed at safeguarding the community and preventing future offenses.
