CHILD RAPIST WHO SHARED VIDEO ONLINE JAILED
A disturbing case of child sexual abuse has culminated in the conviction and imprisonment of Thomas Gwillam-Carter, a 39-year-old electrician from Leominster, Herefordshire. The severity of his crimes, which included the distribution of videos depicting the sexual assault of a young girl, has shocked the community and highlighted the ongoing global challenge of tackling child exploitation.
The investigation into Gwillam-Carter's activities was spearheaded by the National Crime Agency (NCA).
Authorities identified him after discovering child abuse images on devices connected to a suspect in the United States.
This suspect had been arrested by FBI agents, leading to the forensic examination of the electronic evidence.
During the course of their investigation, officers uncovered a series of chat logs in which Gwillam-Carter used the pseudonym ‘keepedging247’ on the Wickr messaging platform.
In these logs, he explicitly expressed intentions to drug a young child to facilitate his sexual assault, revealing a sinister premeditation of his malicious acts.
Further evidence uncovered from this online communication revealed that Gwillam-Carter not only planned to harm but also shared graphic videos of his abuse, which he later admitted to having drugged the child with Phenergan, a mild sedative.
His involvement extended beyond mere planning; he actively distributed these illicit videos to other paedophiles online, encouraging their participation and sharing of similar material.
This community of offenders operated in secrecy but was penetrated thanks to the diligent work of international law enforcement agencies.
Gwillam-Carter was formally arrested at his residence in Leominster on October 1st and had his mobile phone seized at the scene.
Subsequent forensic analysis uncovered a troubling collection of indecent images stored on his device—specifically, 3,651 images categorized from A to C, with Category A representing the most severe form of exploitation.
Some of these images depicted the rape of babies, underscoring the utter depravity of his actions.
The young girl who was the victim of his sexual assault has been safeguarded and is receiving appropriate support amidst the distress caused.
At Worcester Crown Court on November 7th, Gwillam-Carter pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including one count of raping a child under the age of 13, three counts of possession of indecent images of children, and five counts of distribution of such images.
His guilty plea marked a significant step in ensuring justice for his young victim.
Today, December 8th, he was sentenced in the same court.
The sentence reflects the gravity of his criminal conduct and the heinous nature of his offenses.
The NCA’s operations manager, Phil Eccles, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing such crimes.
He stated, “Gwillam-Carter inflicted the most terrible abuse on a young girl and distributed videos he’d made of it online, all for his and other paedophiles’ pleasure.
Child sexual abuse is a global threat, and this case highlights why the NCA’s close cooperation with international partners is so vital in tackling it.” He also reaffirmed the agency’s ongoing commitment to shielding victims from further abuse and apprehending offenders who pose a sexual threat to children, ensuring they are brought to justice.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online platforms used by predators and underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts in protecting vulnerable children in Herefordshire and beyond.
