SEX OFFENDER THIEF BACK IN COURT AFTER BREAKING RULES
A SEX offender who broke the rules and stole goods worth hundreds has been back up before the court.Jonathan Lewis entered a guilty plea to two count of failing to comply with sex offenders' register notification requirements, nine counts of theft from a shop, and one count of attempted theft from a shop when he appeared before magistrates in December.
The 31-year-old had failed without reasonable excuse to notify his offender manager of a change of address withing the required three-day period, which he is required to do as part of his notification requirements, between September 11 and October 13 and on November 21, Hereford magistrates heard from prosecutor Camilla Toscano.
He had also stolen a variety of goods including chocolates, toilet rolls, detergent, lager and clothing from Leominster's Morrisons, Co-op and Factory Shop and Hereford's Asda in a series of thefts between August and December, and attempted to steal chocolates from Leominster Morrisons in September.
Magistrates said the offences were so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified.
Lewis, of Quarry Bank Mews, Leominster, was handed an 18-week prison sentence, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to pay compensation of £198 to Morrisons, £50 to Asda, £115 to Co-op, and £45 to the Factory Shop as well as £85 costs.
