WOMAN ASSAULTED AND BITTEN BY EX-PARTNER IN BURNLEY, SENTENCED TO 27 MONTHS
A MAN who attacked his ex-girlfriend on several occasions by biting her face, leaving marks on her nose and lips, was sentenced in court.Thomas Dooley’s conduct towards women was so severe that his defense barrister cited a report describing him as having "among the worst she had seen" in a long time.
Dooley was sentenced to 27 months in jail for his violent actions.
The abusive behavior started after the pair met over Christmas and began seeing each other in January.
Prosecutor Lisa Worsley stated that initially, the relationship seemed normal, but soon he became aggressive, resorting to slapping, pushing, punching, kicking, and throwing her around.
The victim suffered various injuries, including reduced hearing from one of his blows, black eyes, bruises, and scratches during the relationship.
She moved in with her family to escape him, and he was arrested in April.
The court was told she now struggles with sleep, anxiety, depression, and a lack of trust in men, also feeling too anxious to seek employment.
She fears what he might do if he were released on bail.
Thomas Dooley, aged 28, has a history of 26 convictions for 43 offenses.
He pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behavior and common assault during an earlier hearing.
His defense argued that much of his violence was learned from a difficult childhood marked by domestic violence, the death of his mother, and a strained relationship with his father.
Despite the severity of his actions, Judge Sara Dodd acknowledged he showed remorse and stated that his violent behavior was influenced by his traumatic upbringing.
