MAN JAILED FOR HOLIDAY SEX ATTACK
From 2009.Thomas Campbell, known as ‘Tucker’ was jailed for 18 months in May 2009 after attacking a 16 year old girl after she had drunk 3 litres of cider.
Campbell gave the girls friend £5 to go and buy him a Kebab to be alone with the drunk girl.
He then assaulted her and fled.
He was later caught due to his DNA being on her clothing.
He tried to refuse that he met the girl but when informed of his DNA being found on her clothing, he changed his story.
He said he was on his way to a brothel when he saw a “wee girl” who he kissed and had a consensual sexual encounter with.
His barrister Julie Taylor told the court: “He mistook her drunkenness as attention towards him at first.
He took advantage once he was alone with her.
There is nothing to suggest this was a prolonged form of attack.” “He didn"t plan it.
It was a situation he came across and took advantage of.
He is extremely remorseful and apologises through me to the victim and her family.' Judge Christopher Cornwall told Campbell: 'From her point of view, it was a simply terrifying experience, a total stranger more than twice her age engages her in conversation and then makes a sexual advance on her.” “This is a very serious sexual crime.
It is one from which she may well not make a particularly speedy recovery.' The judge also said that up until the morning of the case being listed for trial, the girl thought she would have to relive the disgraceful incident in front of a jury, by giving evidence and being cross examined and that would have added to her considerable distress.”
