JUVENILE GROOMER SENTENCED TO NEARLY 10 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
An individual labeled as a 'dangerous sexual predator' was detained at a hotel after a proactive receptionist notified police upon his registration alongside a 14-year-old girl. The receptionist received commendation from a judge for her swift action.
The suspect, 36-year-old Terence Raymond Lewis, was sentenced to a prison term of nine years and nine months, with an additional three-year license period.
Authorities explained that Lewis had groomed the minor through online messaging from the age of 11, initially disguising himself as a teenage boy by using false images.
The police investigation revealed the full extent of his misconduct, uncovering thousands of images stored on his devices along with tens of thousands of text messages.
He had hidden his identity by using photographs of another child under a falsified name, claiming to be a 14-year-old boy.
Lewis confessed in June to 19 counts of child sex offenses, including meeting a child after grooming, kidnapping, inciting sexual acts, provoking a child to watch sexual conduct, engaging in sexual acts with a minor, and forcing a child to participate in sexual activities.
Law enforcement officials described him as a 'narcissistic, callous predator' and stressed that his sentencing underscores the seriousness of his actions, which caused significant trauma and damage to the victim.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wrench commented that the police wanted to send a clear message that offenders will be caught and prosecuted, and that victims should be encouraged to report such crimes.
The case was investigated by GMP’s Child Protection Investigation Unit in Stockport, with cooperation from partner agencies to support the victim.
Senior Crown Prosecutor Gillian Petrovic from the North West Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit emphasized that evidence from electronic devices and medical assessments was vital in securing the guilty plea.
She reiterated the CPS’s commitment to justice for victims affected by these heinous acts.
