TERENCE GREEN FROM MIDDLESBROUGH AND TEESVILLE SENTENCED FOR BREACHING SEX OFFENDER RESTRICTIONS
In a case that has raised serious concerns about the safety of young children and the effectiveness of monitoring sex offenders, Terence Green, a man with a troubling past, has been sentenced to prison after breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for the third time. Green, who resides in Avondale Close, Teesville, and has connections to Middlesbrough, was found to have engaged in inappropriate contact with a neighbor and her four children despite being legally barred from such interactions.Between March 2018 and January 2019, Green maintained regular contact with the family, which included the mother and her four children, the youngest of whom was only six years old at the time. Green’s interactions with the children included visiting their home on multiple occasions, during which he was present when the children were there. The court heard that on January 5, Green was seen speaking with two of the children, raising serious concerns about his conduct given his status as a registered sex offender.
The court proceedings revealed that Green had previously been subject to a SHPO, which was imposed in November 2016, following his conviction for possessing indecent images. Despite this, Green had breached the order twice before, including once for deleting his internet browsing history to conceal his activities. His latest breach was uncovered when a woman, one of the neighbors, received a phone call from Green’s probation officer. The call was so shocking that it caused her to suffer a panic attack, and she described feeling “disgusted” by the revelation.
During the trial at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, Ansab Shan, the prosecutor, detailed Green’s breaches and the risks involved. He explained that Green had made friends with a woman who lived next door to her cousin, and he had kept his past convictions hidden from her and her children. The court was told that Green’s failure to disclose his criminal history was motivated by shame and embarrassment, which contributed to the danger posed to the community.
Green’s conduct was deemed extremely high risk, and the court took into account his history of breaches and the potential threat to vulnerable children. As a result, Green was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period. Additionally, Green was ordered to complete 30 days of rehabilitation and was required to pay costs amounting to £200.
This case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in monitoring and managing convicted sex offenders, especially those who attempt to conceal their pasts and re-engage with vulnerable individuals. The community of Middlesbrough and Teesville remains on alert, hoping that measures are in place to prevent further harm from individuals like Green.
