CONGLETON OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR ONLINE CHILD EXPLOITATION
Congleton resident Syed Ali, aged 33, has been convicted and sentenced for serious sexual misconduct involving minors.His offending came to light after he had online conversations with a 13-year-old girl, during which he sent her sexually explicit images.
The girl’s mother alerted authorities, which led to an investigation.
It was subsequently discovered that Ali had been impersonating a 14-year-old boy online to send similar content to a 12-year-old girl in Wales.
Police from Cheshire raided his home on Wallworths Bank, seizing his mobile phone and various electronic devices.
Investigators uncovered his presence on multiple social media platforms including Tinder, WeChat, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.
They also noted that he had searched for grooming-related phrases.
Ali declined to answer questions during police questioning and later pleaded guilty.
He was sentenced to 17 months in jail for engaging in sexual acts in the presence of a child and for encouraging a child to participate in sexual acts.
He is now listed on the Sex Offenders' Register and under a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Detective Sergeant Laura Fox stated that children should be protected from explicit material created by offenders like Ali.
She called on parents to remain vigilant online and seek guidance if issues arise.
Fox concluded by reaffirming that law enforcement has the ability to track down online offenders, even when they believe they are anonymous, and to ensure they are brought to justice.
