TEENAGER JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING VULNERABLE UNDERAGE GIRL AFTER SOCIAL MEDIA GROOMING
A teenager named Suleymaan Ar'raa-ee was involved in serious criminal activity involving a vulnerable underage girl.He met the girl on Snapchat, where they initially developed a friendship before progressing to in-person meetings during the summer of 2018.
The girl, who was underage and considered vulnerable, frequently went missing from her home, which led to social services becoming involved.
Ar'raa-ee, then 17 years old, persuaded her to go for a walk, during which he asked her to perform a sexual act and ultimately engaged in sexual activity with her.
The girl, later admitting what happened when she returned home covered in mud, described feeling embarrassed and tried to push the memories away.
Ar'raa-ee was arrested and interviewed, and he faced two counts of sexual activity with a child.
The court heard that the girl was vulnerable, with concerns from social services about her well-being.
Ar'raa-ee appeared at Teesside Crown Court to be sentenced, and the victim provided a statement expressing her feelings of shame.
The judge sentenced Ar'raa-ee to a 36-month community order and ordered him to complete 30 rehabilitation days.
Defense mitigation emphasized that Ar'raa-ee had shown remorse, had not committed any offenses since, and had been involved in community and voluntary work including NHS volunteering and a fire brigade youth scheme.
It was noted that Ar'raa-ee had a difficult childhood, was placed into care at 15, and suffers from serious PTSD and impaired emotional development.
The sentence aimed to facilitate his rehabilitation and responsible reintegration into society.
