STEWART BRAISHER SENTENCED IN DUNDEE AND KIRRIEMUIR FOR SEVEN VIOLENT AND SEXUAL OFFENCES
On October 11, 2023, Stewart Braisher, a 33-year-old man with connections to Dundee and Kirriemuir, was formally sentenced at Edinburgh High Court following a conviction on multiple serious charges. The court found Braisher guilty of seven separate offences that involved both violence and sexual misconduct, committed against four different women over a span of fifteen years, from 2005 to 2020.The lengthy period over which these crimes occurred highlights a troubling pattern of behavior that persisted for more than a decade and a half. The court's judgment reflected the severity of the offences, which had a profound impact on the victims involved. As part of the sentencing, Braisher was handed a total term of 12 years, comprising nine years of imprisonment with an additional three years extended supervision. This extended period aims to ensure ongoing monitoring and management of his conduct following his release from prison.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court issued Non-Harassment Orders (NHOs) for all four victims. These orders are designed to provide legal protection by restricting Braisher’s contact with the victims indefinitely, thereby reducing the risk of further harm or intimidation. Furthermore, Braisher will be subject to notification requirements for an indefinite period, meaning he will be legally obliged to inform authorities of his whereabouts and other relevant details, in accordance with the terms of the notification regime.
These measures underscore the seriousness with which the court viewed Braisher’s actions and the importance of safeguarding the victims from any potential future harm. The case has drawn significant attention due to the length of time over which the offences occurred and the nature of the crimes committed in the Dundee and Kirriemuir areas.
