HUGH REID FROM DUNDEE SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR MULTIPLE SEXUAL AND VIOLENT CRIMES IN DUNDEE AND STIRLING

Hugh Reid, a 51-year-old resident of Dundee, has been handed a substantial prison sentence of nine years after being found guilty of a series of grave criminal offenses that include multiple counts of rape, abduction, sexual assault, and physical abuse. The conviction was secured in the High Court in Stirling following a detailed three-day trial that uncovered the extent of Reid’s disturbing criminal behavior.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Reid had repeatedly raped a woman aged 40 at his flat located in Dudhope Court during the years 2022 and 2023. The court also heard evidence that he sexually assaulted another woman, aged 42, on open grassland as well as within his Dundee flat in 2021. These incidents highlighted a pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over a period of time and across different locations.

In addition to these sexual offenses, Reid was convicted of assaulting a mother, also aged 42, on Buttar’s Loan. The assault involved him pinning her against a wall in a common stairway, attempting to kiss her, and being thwarted when she responded by kicking him in the groin. The victim recounted her ordeal, describing Reid as a “pure bully” who demanded money, took her benefits directly from her bank account, and referred to her as an “object.” She further detailed how Reid forcibly cut her hair, accused her of theft, subjected her to a strip search, and threw knives and other objects at her, even hitting her with a metal pole during the attack.

Witnesses described Reid as “fat” or “chubby,” and the victim added that he was “grudging with food,” often hiding cakes for himself. A former partner, who also suffered abuse at Reid’s hands, reported that he threatened her life, tried to control her eating and sleeping habits, and refused her privacy, leaving her feeling trapped with “no escape.”

Reid’s criminal conduct extended to kidnapping as well. He was convicted of abducting a woman from her home on Lochee Road, along with an accomplice. The court heard that they forcibly entered her residence, pulled her into her living room, stole her phone and keys, and later took her to an ATM where she was forced to withdraw £250. Afterward, Reid returned her home and held her captive for several hours. Police intervened when the woman managed to lock Reid inside her flat, which contained her cash and cocaine, effectively ending his hold over her.

Detective Inspector Gordon Patullo expressed satisfaction with the sentence, emphasizing the seriousness of Reid’s crimes. He stated, “Reid subjected his victims to horrific sexual assaults. He will now face the consequences of his actions. Police Scotland takes all reports of violence and sexual crime extremely seriously. We have specialist officers to listen and support those who have experienced this kind of crime.
