MARK WATSON'S BRUTAL DUNDEE ATTACK LEADS TO EXTENDED PRISON SENTENCE
A violent and disturbing assault that took place in Dundee during the 2022 festive season has culminated in a lengthy prison sentence for the perpetrator, Mark Watson. The 56-year-old man was involved in a savage attack on a woman inside her home in the Charleston area, leaving her with severe injuries that shocked those who responded to the scene.According to court reports, Watson wielded a kitchen knife during the assault, inflicting multiple injuries on the victim. The woman, in a state of shock and bleeding heavily, arrived at her neighbor’s residence with a neck wound, clutching her neck in distress. Her account of the attack was harrowing; she described her injuries as “He stabbed me everywhere, like in the movies,” emphasizing the brutality of the incident.
The Dundee High Court heard that the assault occurred around 7:30 a.m. on December 28, following a night during which Watson had been drinking alcohol. Witnesses and court evidence indicated that Watson had been moving in and out of the victim’s bedroom during the night, although he denied being present at the time of the attack. Despite his claims, the jury unanimously found Watson guilty of attempted murder.
During the trial, the victim recounted her terrifying experience, describing how she was “stabbed everywhere, like in the movies,” and how emergency responders found her in a critical condition. Paramedic Alexander Bourke treated her for a three-inch cut on her thumb and a four-inch laceration across her throat. The severity of her injuries was such that her life was considered at risk at the scene. The woman, believed to have been intoxicated at the time, described the scene as “something out of a horror film,” and expressed her fear that she was going to die.
Sergeant Kirsten Kiddie, who responded to the scene, confirmed the woman’s account, describing the chaos and the extent of her injuries. Prior to sentencing, Watson, who was previously residing at Adamson Court, was held in custody while awaiting a social work report to inform the court’s decision.
Ultimately, Watson was sentenced at the Glasgow High Court to a total of 11 years in prison. This included nine years of custody and an extended two-year period of supervision in the community. Additionally, the court imposed a lifetime non-harassment order to prevent any further contact or intimidation. The case underscores the severity of the attack and the justice served in response to this violent crime in Dundee.
