WISBECH MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER KILLING DISABLED GIRLFRIEND
A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after fatally stabbing his disabled girlfriend, Laraine Rayner, in the neck.The murder occurred following an argument during which Stocks was said to have been in an intense 'fury'.
After a trial lasting six days at Southwark Crown Court, the jury found him guilty of her murder.
Ms Rayner, who had three children, was discovered at her address on Mill Road in Wisbech on April 24, after her father alerted the authorities.
It was revealed that Stocks left her body to rot for two weeks in a makeshift 'shrine' at her home and had sent her a letter apologizing for the mess he caused, according to prosecutors.
Upon police arrival, Stocks was found to be naked and had apparently tried to take his own life through an overdose.
It was reported that he did not assist her as she bled, chose to abandon her, and continued with his daily routines.
The court heard that Ms Rayner was a vulnerable individual with multiple health problems, relying on mobility aids and being confined indoors.
An autopsy confirmed her death was caused by a stab wound to the neck.
Earlier, Stocks pleaded guilty to hindering her proper burial, and her family has expressed that while justice has been served, her absence remains deeply felt.
He received a sentence of no less than 20 years, with the judge describing the offence as a 'serious case of domestic homicide'.
