GWYNEDD MAN JAILED FOR 18 MONTHS FOR NON-FATAL STRANGULATION
A man from Gwynedd has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for non-fatal strangulation, following a change in legislation that makes this a criminal offense in Wales.
Steven Peter Blake, aged 26, was convicted of non-fatal strangulation and has been handed the sentence on January 6.
In addition to imprisonment, he was also given a five-year restraining order against his victim.
The legislation concerning non-fatal strangulation has been in force since June 2022 and Blake's conviction is among the first under this new law in Wales.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Andy Gibson commented on the case, stating: “We are fully committed to stamping out violence against women and children.
The effective use of the new legislation will hopefully send a positive message to victims of crime and domestic abuse.
The law also makes it clear to perpetrators that such acts are unacceptable, and we will pursue those who continue to commit such heinous acts.”
