WOMAN ‘BRUTALLY BEATEN’ AFTER PUNCHES AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN GWYNEDD
A Gwynedd man responsible for a sexual assault and assaulting a woman has been sentenced to prison.Robert Reid, aged 22 and from Stockport’s Millstone Terrace, was given a prison term of two years and ten months at Caernarfon Crown Court on March 5.
He admitted to charges including assault causing actual bodily harm, sexual assault, and controlling and coercive behavior before his sentencing.
During the hearing, Judge Nicola Jones told Reid to "sit down and be quiet" while in court.
Prosecutor Elen Owen detailed that the assault occurred in February 2023, leaving the female victim feeling "absolutely disgusted" and mentally and physically drained.
Reid approached her aggressively, grabbing her by the neck, which made her scream, "Please don't hurt me." He then pinned her down, hitting her face multiple times and shouting profanity.
The woman sustained bleeding from her mouth, with her head swollen and ringing in her ears afterward.
In her statement, she shared that she still experiences night terrors from the violence inflicted by Reid.
She expressed that she has replayed the traumatic event numerous times and stressed, "I did not deserve what happened to me." Reid’s solicitor, John Wyn Williams, noted that his client, who has a criminal record consisting of 17 convictions for 41 offences, now feels genuine remorse.
He stated Reid has realized he cannot lead this way and hopes his past will not influence his future.
While awaiting placement in anger management and healthy relationship courses, Reid's probation status is ongoing.
Judge Jones praised the victim’s courage in attending the court hearing to read her impact statement directly to Reid.
She advised her not to let this experience define her and ordered an indefinite restraining order against Reid.
Additionally, Reid is mandated to register on the sex offenders register for a decade.
