GWYNEDD RESTAURANT MANAGER JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE
A survivor of sexual abuse has shared his harrowing experience with a restaurant manager known as a 'golden boy'.Richard Tung operated Fu's Restaurant in Caernarfon, Wales, where he was a familiar and respected figure in the community.
However, in private, he was responsible for sexually abusing a young boy over a period of years.
Last month, Tung was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of seven charges, including two counts of raping a child under 13, two counts of sexual activity with a minor, two counts of encouraging or inciting a child to engage in sexual acts, and indecent assault.
Tung is no longer affiliated with the Caernarfon establishment, and the crimes were unrelated to his duties at the restaurant.
The victim, now in his twenties, chose to speak out to help others by recounting how he was manipulated and abused beginning at age 14.
He explained that he only recognized the abuse as wrong much later and shared how he battled mental health issues such as anxiety, PTSD, and depression.
The survivor disclosed that he came forward in 2022 after confiding in his partner and family, which ultimately led to Tung's conviction.
He said: "He would play games, he would let me use his mobile phone, everyone thought he was a lovely guy.
They thought he could do no wrong so he was trusted." "I didn't realize it was wrong—until it suddenly hit me that 'this is not normal'.
I tried to fight him off but he was bigger and stronger than me." "He was a 'golden boy', loved by everyone, and it was my word against his." The survivor also reflected on the lifelong trauma, anxiety, and difficulties he faces since the abuse, including feelings of shame and self-blame.
His primary reason for speaking out was to prevent others from suffering a similar fate.
He explained: "My life has been deeply affected by the abuse.
I'm still very alert and scared of potential danger.
It's exhausting because I constantly scan the environment to feel safe." "I dislike being alone.
I fear being home alone at night and often move from room to room because I'm afraid someone might hurt me.
My anxiety persists, and I tend to overthink everything." The court process was emotionally exhausting for him, but he described it as ultimately a relief, knowing justice was done and Tung was held accountable.
