ARMED RAPIST JAILED FOLLOWING GUILTY VERDICT
A 23-year-old man convicted of multiple serious charges has received a sentence of ten years in prison, along with an extended period of six years on licence.Jay Jenkins-Lang denied his involvement in the crimes but was convicted on four counts: rape, possessing a firearm, causing actual bodily harm, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
On June 28, 2023, the individual, then aged 20, traveled to the residence of his 17-year-old victim after fleeing from Newport Magistrates’ Court.
While in her bedroom, Jenkins-Lang tried to initiate sexual activity; when refused, he assaulted her and forced himself upon her.
After the assault, the girl escaped to a neighbor’s house, prompting police attendance.
Upon arrest, Jenkins-Lang was found equipped with a stab vest, a BB gun, and a knife.
In a trial held in September 2024, the defendant’s barrister submitted a letter allegedly received from the victim during Jenkins-Lang’s detention, claiming she had apologised and cleared him of any wrongdoing.
The court paused proceedings to verify the letter’s authenticity.
Evidence including forensic analysis, handwriting examination, and expert testimony proved that the letter was not written by the victim.
Consequently, Jenkins-Lang and a 21-year-old man were charged with attempting to obstruct justice; the other man was acquitted.
Ultimately, at Cardiff Crown Court on February 25, Jenkins-Lang was convicted on all four counts.
He was sentenced to a decade in prison, with an additional six-year licence period upon release.
