PETERHEAD MAN JAILED FOR 18 MONTHS FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE
A man from Peterhead, Steven McCormick, aged 42, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting to committing domestic abuse.
He also received a three-year restraining order to stay away from his partner.
The court heard that McCormick threatened to kill his partner, threw a spade through her window, and inflicted repeated physical assaults, including punching her on the head and body.
During the incidents on 27 and 28 May, reports indicated that he asked for money from his partner, and when refused, he damaged property by throwing a spade through her window and breaking a glass pane, which resulted in injuries to her.
The following day, McCormick once again asked for money, then proceeded to punch and kick her, causing visible injuries such as a swollen lip, burst blood vessels in her eye, and swelling on her hands and arms.
The court was informed that police responded after reports from witnesses saw the assault.
His defense counsel stated that he was remorseful and embarrassed about his conduct.
Sheriff Craig Findlater, acknowledging that McCormick had previously made efforts to address his issues, sentenced him to 18 months in prison and imposed a non-harassment order preventing contact with his ex-partner for three years.
