WOMAN ACCUSED OF KILLING BABY WITH 'SUSTAINED' HEAT FROM HAIRDRYER
A woman faces serious allegations of killing her three-month-old daughter, Dahlia Rose Gartshore, by exposing her to "significant" and "sustained" heat from a hairdryer. The 27-year-old, Courtney Gartshore, was in the "sole care" of the child on September 30, 2023, at a property in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, when the incident allegedly occurred.
Prosecutors assert that Gartshore’s actions were "culpably and recklessly" responsible for inflicting injuries so severe that the baby later died.
Additionally, Gartshore is accused of neglecting Dahlia-Rose and another child, including drinking alcohol to excess, co-sleeping while intoxicated, possessing controlled drugs such as mephedrone and cocaine, and allowing the children to live in "unsanitary conditions" laden with dirty nappies and spoiled food.
The case was briefed at the High Court in Glasgow, where Gartshore’s legal team, led by KC Murray Macara, entered a plea of "not guilty." Both sides requested a trial, which has been scheduled to commence in July 2026 in Aberdeen, with an estimated duration of ten days.
The case underscores grave concerns about parental neglect and child abuse, with prosecutors seeking justice for the tragic death of Dahlia Rose Gartshore.
