FALKIRK MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR MURDER AND RAPE IN HEINOUS ATTACK
The report details the grievous offenses carried out by Steven Mathieson, who murdered 23-year-old Luciana Maurer by stabbing her 44 times.Following the murder, Mathieson abducted and sexually assaulted two other women at his residence in Falkirk.
He confessed to killing Ms Maurer in this manner and also admitted to raping the two women, aged 22 and 26, after taking them captive on December 4 of the previous year.
During the court proceedings, Mathieson told authorities he called the police himself after the two victims managed to escape naked from his house, stating: "I've been high on drugs and I've killed a prostitute." He was subsequently brought before the High Court, where he pleaded guilty to charges of murder and rape.
The judge sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years before parole could be considered.
Additionally, his name was entered onto the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.
The court was informed that Mathieson displayed a depraved and violent nature, with Lord Bannatyne highlighting that his method of booking multiple escorts and the severity of his crimes were extremely depraved.
The case was described as one of the most shocking and heinous the court has encountered, with the judge describing Mathieson’s actions as "truly dreadful." The judge also made it clear that his drug use did not mitigate his conduct.
Police Scotland described the incident as deeply traumatic, praised the courage of the victims, and expressed hope that the verdict would bring some measure of closure to those impacted by the crimes.
