MAN JAILED FOR RAPING AND SEXUALLY ABUSING A CHILD
A man has been sentenced to prison after admitting to the sexual abuse and rape of a child in Northwich.
On Friday, 12 September, Steven Hargreaves, aged 36 and a resident of Northwich, appeared at Chester Crown Court and received a prison sentence of ten years and six months.
He previously pleaded guilty to four charges: two counts of rape and two counts of causing a minor to engage in sexual activities.
The case originated in June 2025 when the victim’s mother came across alarming messages from Hargreaves on her child's mobile device.
After discussing with her child, she learned that Hargreaves had subjected her to ongoing sexual abuse and multiple rapes over several years.
The mother reported these incidents to the Northwich Public Protection Unit detectives, which initiated an investigation.
Hargreaves was quickly taken into custody in connection with these accusations and denied the allegations during questioning.
Yet, due to the compelling evidence, he was charged with the offences and eventually pleaded guilty in court.
In addition to serving time, he was subject to a 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a restraining order, and was ordered to remain on the sex offenders register permanently.
