ABERDEEN MAN CAUGHT SENDING SEXUAL MESSAGES TO UNDERAGE DECOYS AVOIDS JAIL
An offshore worker named Steven Fraser, aged 46, has been involved in illegal online activities by sending sexual messages and explicit images to individuals he believed were underage girls.
The incidents took place via chat applications ChatHour and Kik between November 9, 2019, and January 26, 2020.
Fraser sent numerous sexual messages, including pictures of adults engaged in sex acts, despite knowing the decoys' ages.
He followed up these messages by stating, “They’re having sex.
It’s completely natural” and asked a girl if she had her “bra and knickers on.” Fraser later used the usernames ‘Scotslad1975’ and ‘Scotslad1980’ to message a 14-year-old girl, complimenting her and asking personal questions like where she lived and her school.
When confronted at his home, Fraser admitted to chatting with a decoy but denied contacting underage girls.
Police linked his online usernames to his email address, leading to his arrest.
His defense claimed Fraser had struggled to adjust to life onshore and turned to social media to meet people.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Fraser pleaded guilty to two counts of sending sexual communications to persons he believed to be children.
The court considered his circumstances, and as an alternative to prison, Sheriff Christine McCrossan sentenced him to a three-year community payback order, 200 hours of unpaid work, a four-month restriction of liberty order, and placed him on the sex offenders register for three years.
