CHILD SEX OFFENDER IS JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS
A man identified as Steven Abbott has been sentenced to a substantial prison term after being found guilty of engaging in disturbing sexual misconduct involving a young child. The sentencing highlights the severity of his actions, which have been described as predatory in nature.
Abbott, aged 45 and residing in the village of Scholes within the town of Cleckheaton, located in Yorkshire, received a sentence of seven years behind bars.
Additionally, the court imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order on him, aiming to restrict his activities and protect potential future victims.
This judgement was handed down at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, December 16.
The conviction stemmed from six separate sexual offenses, including serious charges of sexual assault and inappropriate touching.
A jury in July of the same year found Abbott guilty of these crimes beyond a reasonable doubt, affirming the gravity of his misconduct.
Following his eventual release from prison, Abbott will be obligated to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, adhering to statutory requirements intended to monitor and prevent further offenses.
The investigation into Abbott’s crimes was led by Detective Constable Alexis Stansfield, who publicly acknowledged the importance of the sentencing in addressing the alleged predatory behaviour.
She expressed her relief that justice has been served, emphasizing the traumatising impact on the young victim and her family.
“Including the emotional toll and the ordeal they have endured, Abbott’s denial of guilt throughout the trial only added additional pain,” DC Stansfield said.
“We hope that the resolution of this case will help bring some sense of closure and reassurance to the victim and her loved ones.” She further urged anyone who might have experienced or received reports of sexual offenses to come forward.
Her department, along with other partner agencies, remains committed to investigating such reports thoroughly, providing support for victims, and pursuing justice diligently in each case.
