MAN WHO ASSAULTED HIS PARTNER IN STREET CLAIMS HE DOESN'T CONDONE VIOLENCE

A man named Andrew King, residing on Bream Avenue, was involved in a serious incident where he repeatedly assaulted his partner in the street while she screamed at him to stop.

The victim was pinned against a window and then dragged along the ground by King as she begged him to end her suffering.

King admitted he had consumed more alcohol than usual that night and expressed disgust at his behaviour, which he could not fully remember.

He pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Kirklees Magistrates' Court.

The incident occurred outside his home in Cleckheaton on October 13 and was witnessed by a neighbour who dialed 999.

According to the prosecutor, Natalie Chapman, the witness heard screaming from outside, with the woman shouting, 'Get off me, let me go,' and King responding, 'Shut up, what are you shouting for?' The victim was trying to retrieve her handbag and keys when she fell to the ground.

King then shouted at her and dragged her along the street.

The court was told that she managed to break free and run away.

King claimed that he and his partner had been out drinking with friends and had been locked out when they returned home, which sparked the argument.

He accepted responsibility for the bruising he caused but could not recall the details of what transpired.

The court noted his remorse, with Deputy District Judge Michael Hopkinson sentencing him to 80 hours of unpaid work, ordering him to pay £85 in court costs and victim surcharge, and to compensate his partner with £80 for the impact of the assault.
