WOMAN BEATER STRANGLED, KNOCKED OUT AND COVERED GIRLFRIEND IN VODKA IN SICKENING ATTACKS AND HAD THE AUDACITY TO BLAME HER
Stephen Wilson, aged 33, was sentenced to two years in prison after assaulting his partner twice within a five-day span in Bolton this May.Prosecutor Verity Quaite told Bolton Crown Court that Wilson and his girlfriend had been together for approximately nine months at the time of the attacks.
On May 6, during an incident at a shared residence, Wilson reportedly attacked the woman by jumping on her and attempting to strangle her.
While she was on the ground, he punched her, which she believes caused her to lose consciousness.
When she regained awareness, she was covered in vodka and had blood in her hair.
He continued assaulting her until a friend arrived and asked if he wanted to go shopping.
Wilson then left the scene, enabling the woman to escape in her underwear.
She was subsequently picked up by a passing police vehicle, the court was told.
Four days later, on May 10, Wilson returned and threw a ladder at her while she was outside smoking.
According to her account, he spat into her nose and eye and delivered three or four punches.
She recalls feeling unconscious again and waking up to find Wilson had gone.
During police questioning, Wilson denied the assaults, claiming, "I didn't punch no one, it was her." With 21 convictions covering 52 offences, Wilson pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court was informed that many of his prior offences involved violence.
His defence lawyer, Harriet Lavin, stated that Wilson suffers from emotionally unstable personality disorder and has experienced mental health difficulties since his father's death at age 12.
She also noted that he has been promised a job with a joinery firm upon release and asked for a suspended sentence.
However, Judge Martin Walsh, the Bolton Recorder, sentenced Wilson to two years in prison.
He remarked that Wilson’s criminal history and lack of cooperation with probation indicated that a suspended sentence was unsuitable.
Additionally, a restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from contacting the victim or approaching within 200 metres of her residence.
