WEMYSS BAY MAN FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULTING EX-WIFE
A WEMYSS Bay man made 'vulgar' comments to his ex-wife before grabbing her by the neck and pushing her out of his property.Stephen McIntyre, 46, seized the woman by her neck and body during an incident at his home in Striven Road on November 12 last year.
The trial at Greenock Sheriff Court heard evidence from the complainer, who said she and McIntyre were separated at the time.
She recalled McIntyre making ‘vulgar’ comments in the living room of the property.
During the incident, he told the woman she was ‘riddled with AIDS’.
She said McIntyre’s shouting and ‘name calling’ continued until she walked out of the living room, at which point he slammed the door in her face.
As she walked to the front door, McIntyre followed and grabbed her by the neck and waist.
She said she was then ‘thrown’ out of the front door and stumbled down two steps outside, but remained upright.
McIntyre then picked up a plant pot, which he held above his head.
The woman said: “I was unsure whether he was coming for me or my car.
I had my two hands up over my face at that point.” Sheriff Sean Lynch found McIntyre guilty of the assault, as well as a charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards the woman by shouting, swearing, and uttering offensive remarks.
He was also convicted of a third charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards a male at the Wemyss Bay property on the same date.
Sheriff Lynch deferred sentencing until social workers can prepare a background report.
The case will call again at Greenock Sheriff Court on April 7.
