WEMYSS BAY MAN JAMES JOHNSTONE REMANDED AFTER ASSAULT DURING DOMESTIC DISPUTE
A man from Wemyss Bay named James Johnstone, aged 34, has been involved in an incident where he allegedly punched his partner and a 60-year-old woman on their heads while holding a baby. The assault occurred within a house in the village last Sunday, and it is alleged that Johnstone was clutching a one-year-old child during the incident.
Despite offering a plea of guilty to acting aggressively and making offensive remarks towards the women, he denied the actual assaults.
Johnstone has a criminal record that includes multiple domestically aggravated offenses, such as assault to injury and threatening or abusive behavior, with some offenses resulting in custodial sentences in 2019.
Due to his previous convictions, bail was refused, and he was remanded in custody until his case next scheduled for December 20 at Greenock Sheriff Court.
The prosecutor highlighted the danger posed by his criminal history, especially the domestic violence offenses, and the defense argued that remaining in custody would negatively impact his employment and housing.
The sheriff agreed with the prosecution and remanded him in custody.
