A man has been sentenced to prison after engaging in inappropriate conduct with a 13-year-old girl, including groping her and expressing a desire to have sexual relations.Sean Mcgee, who was 22 at the time but claimed to be 17, continued to molest the minor.
Now aged 24, Mcgee pleaded guilty in Kilmarnock Sheriff Court to two charges, admitting to sending sexual messages and participating in sexual activities with her.
The court was informed that their communication began in March of the previous year through Facebook Messenger and Snapchat.
Prosecutor Fraser Alexander explained that these early exchanges were relatively innocent.
However, after the girl revealed she was 13 around March 25, Mcgee—claiming to be 17—began making inappropriate comments, calling her “cute,” saying he wanted to date her, and suggesting he desired to have sex, even mentioning booking a hotel room and providing a condom.
Mcgee also asked her if she wanted to have sex in a train or McDonald's restroom, though she did not respond.
During their conversations, he disclosed he was actually 22.
The pair arranged to meet at Wemyss Bay station on April 13, with Mcgee arriving around 9 pm and the girl arriving later with a friend.
They walked around the village, with Mcgee hugging the girl, holding her hand, and putting his arm around her shoulder.
He also molested her over her clothes.
Despite parting ways afterward, contact between them persisted.
The girl’s mother found sexual messages on her daughter's phone and reported it to authorities.
Police spoke to the girl on April 16, where she fully disclosed the details.
The following day, officers arrested Mcgee at his home; he acknowledged knowing her age and admitted to molesting her.
He was sentenced to 58 weeks in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.
