STEPHEN JORY FROM PENZANCE AND TRURO CAUGHT IN SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER CASES

In December 2017, a disturbing case involving serial sex offender Stephen Jory unfolded at Plymouth Crown Court.

The 36-year-old, who hails from Penzance, appeared before the court to admit to a serious breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) that had been previously imposed on him.

The incident in question took place on September 22 in Plymouth, where Jory was caught engaging in indecent exposure in public.

Jory's actions involved exposing his genitals to a woman, an act that directly contravened the restrictions set by the SOPO, which was originally put in place in 2013 to curb his inappropriate and dangerous behavior.

The court was informed that this was not an isolated incident; Jory had a history of similar offenses, including a conviction just a year prior for exposing himself to a female doctor at a medical surgery in Cornwall.

This prior conviction resulted in an 18-month jail sentence, highlighting the severity of his repeated misconduct.

During the hearing, Judge Ian Lawrie addressed Jory directly, stating, “You have a compulsion to expose your penis,” emphasizing the compulsive nature of his behavior.

Despite this, the judge expressed a desire to approach the case with a focus on rehabilitation, indicating a willingness to consider a constructive path forward.

As part of his sentence for the latest offense, Jory was handed a three-year community order, which includes 55 days of intensive probation supervision.

Importantly, he remains under the strict supervision of the SOPO for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.

In a separate incident dating back to July 2009, Jory, then 28, narrowly avoided jail time after a series of troubling behaviors in Truro.

On that occasion, he was found lying intoxicated in a bus shelter at Highertown, Truro, shortly after appearing before magistrates for being drunk.

When police arrived, Jory became aggressive, leading to his arrest for being drunk and disorderly.

Prosecutor Ron Ede revealed during a hearing at Truro Crown Court that Jory, residing at St Martins Terrace, Camborne, had admitted to both indecent exposure and breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which explicitly prohibited him from being intoxicated in public.

Mr.

Ede described Jory’s conduct as dangerous, underscoring the risks associated with his behavior.

His defense attorney, Jeremy Leaning, noted that Jory had already served 47 days in custody since his arrest.

The court, presided over by Judge Nicholas Vincent, decided against imposing a six-month suspended prison sentence.

Instead, the judge opted for a long-term approach, ordering Jory to participate in a three-year community order that includes involvement in sexual offender treatment programs and alcohol rehabilitation initiatives.

The judge warned Jory that any further violations, such as being intoxicated or committing sexual offenses, would result in immediate incarceration, emphasizing the need for strict supervision to protect the public from his dangerous tendencies.
