EDEN WINTERS CONVICTED OF RAPING TWO GIRLS IN CORNWALL INCLUDING TREEHOUSE ATTACK
Ryan Bungey, now known as Eden Winters, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of five counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault committed in Cornwall between 2014 and 2015.The 27-year-old from Bootle, near Liverpool, was aged just 16 and 17 when he groomed and abused two young women in Falmouth, Liskeard and near Helston.
He befriended one victim after she moved to Falmouth to study, isolating her and repeatedly assaulting her in locations including public toilets and a children's treehouse in Kimberly Park.
Bungey then targeted another woman he met through college, claiming he was homeless and persuading her family to let him stay in their home.
Despite her repeated refusals, he raped her in her own home while her parents slept upstairs.
Both victims spoke of the devastating long-term impact during sentencing at Truro Crown Court.
One told the court: "The abuse made me take action to kill myself," whilst the other said: "I'm disgusted by him.
I'm glad it's finally over and I can concentrate on myself and healing." Judge Simon Carr told Bungey: "You controlled her and manipulated her life to an enormous extent.
There was an element of humiliation and degradation in your actions." The judge noted this was the first time Bungey had shown any remorse.
Bungey, who suffers from gender dysphoria, will serve 15 years including three on extended licence and will be on the sex offenders' register for life.
Detective Constable Andrew Colley praised the victims' bravery and urged others to report similar offences.
